Have you ever heard the expression, “the ‘good’ is the enemy of the ‘best’”. There are plenty of good things that can be doing right now but I need ask myself is what I’m doing really the best thing? Is what you are doing bringing you closer to your goal or are you putting off what you know you should be doing?

Why are you putting it off? Ask why a few times to get to the root of the problem.

I asked my family for advice on which one of the twelve or so invention ideas that should work first. We all agreed that one particular idea was the lowest hanging fruit so I set my mind to do that.

I kept find other things to work on; my blog, my website, signing-up for Twitter, FaceBook. You name it.

Why was I putting it off? Honestly? Fear

  • Fear of failure
  • Fear of success
  • Fear of conflict
  • Fear of judgment, that people will think my idea is dumb or that my efforts will not measure up to the work of a professional
  • Fear that I will loose money
  • Fear of the unknown

Mark Twain said “Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear – not absence of fear”. My wife’s version she tells me is “Courage is not the absence of fear; it’s acting in the face of it”.

What are your fears? What is preventing you from reaching your goals?

OK, enough procrastinating, I need to work on my inventions.
