Have you ever visited the USPTO website, that’s the United States Patent and Trademark Office for those new to the innovation biz.
There’s lots of good information, but not so easy to find what you need. They really need to study up on web site usability, oh yeah, I forgot, this is the federal government were talking about.
They have a way, or a bad habit, of taking a perfectly good brochure, full of drawings and illustrations and converting it to HTML. Great for search engines, but not so readable when you are looking for the illustration the text refers to. The HTML conversion strips out the images making it harder to read.
Being the web savy, invention addict that I am, I was able to find the pdf files for a number of very helpful brochures published by the USPTO.
Here they are for your pdf file viewing pleasure:
- General Information Concerning Patents
- A Guide to Filing a Utility Patent Application
- A Guide to Filing A Design Patent Application
- Provisional Application for Patent
