Here’s the first method of prototyping I tried for prototyping challenge … Wood.
Pros: Inexpensive, you can glue it, and its green
Cons: Requires tools like a saw and sander, surface finishes can be a bit rough
Cost: For me $0.00 since I have scrap wood in my garage and
Best for: Proof of Concept unless you are a skilled wood worker. If you can sand the wood smooth, you can usually get a good paint job. Remember the pine wood derby cars guys?
Tricks: You don’t always have to cut the part from a single block. My phone holder is actually three pieces that are glued together. Just make sure you use a wood glue and some clamps. Don’t forget to have fun. It may take a couple of tries.
